In-Car Navigation System

Our Client

Our client is a New Media Company who has ties with a leading car manufacturer who was in need of an application to demonstrate its dealers the capabilities of their car models by taking them on a predetermined test drive route.

The Business Challenge

Our client wanted to build a GPS (Global Positioning System) enabled in-car navigation system that could navigate the driver through a predefined route. The application was to run on any commercially available PDA running PocketPC operating system. Multimedia presentations needed to be invoked at predetermined positions on the route to highlight the positive user experience. The administrator was to define and manage a large number of routes with ease from a PC based console.

The Zerone Solution

The commercially available TomTom Navigator was used as a base and was customized using the TomTom SDK. A Pocket PC application was built to allow an administrator to define a route and mark Points of Interests along the route. The Application integrates with Bluetooth enabled GPS receivers to get the current location of the vehicle. The routes defined in the PDA could be imported and manipulated from a Desktop “Administration Console”. Various multimedia files could be attached to the various points of interest. These routes could then be stored in SD cards that can be inserted into the PDA that is installed in the car.

Business Benefits to Our Client
  • It is possible to provide a high impact product demonstration to the dealers giving them better product knowledge.
  • Significant Cost savings are achieved by automating the product demonstration.
  • There is consistency in the product messages send to the dealers.
